So far (based on SPM 2021, 2022 and 2023 questions) the essay in Part 2 has been challenging to many candidates as they are required to write on topics or details which are less familiar to them. This posting aims to reinforce or strengthen candidates' preparations for Part 2.
What can teachers or even candidates themselves do based on each model essay below? Well, they can at least read and copy each essay. Besides, it would be good if candidates can identify the ideas and details which answer each writing task. Highlighting topic sentence, supporting sentences, diverse cohesive devices, straightforward ideas, organisation of ideas, tone, complex sentence structures and less common lexis can also be done by the candidates either through group discussion, pair work or individual task.

Social media platforms have become an integral part of teenagers’ life. Many of them are restless and some would suffocate without social media.

These platforms provide opportunities for connection and entertainment (Supporting sentence 2). Moreover, they are used for self-expression too.
Beyond doubt social media can improve teenagers’ wisdom (Topic sentence). First and foremost, educational content, tutorials, and discussions on platforms like YouTube or Twitter can broaden their knowledge (Topic sentence 1). Furthermore, teenagers can learn new skills, stay updated on global issues, and gain exposure to diverse perspectives (Topic sentence 2).
However, responsible use of social media among teenagers is crucial (Topic sentence). Teenagers should be encouraged to set screen time limits and verify information before sharing (Supporting sentence 1). Besides, they must avoid harmful content (Supporting sentence 2). Additionally, parents and schools can educate them on the importance of digital etiquette and online privacy (Supporting sentence 3).
In essence, by fostering awareness and accountability, social media can become a positive force, helping teenagers grow as informed and thoughtful individuals.

Life is full of ups and downs; there are exciting and bored moments. What causes boredom? How can we handle boredom? Most importantly, how can we define boredom?
I have my own definition of boredom (Topic sentence). From my perspective, boredom is a state of mental stagnation and disinterest, arises when we find no engagement or stimulation in our surroundings (Supporting sentence 1). It can feel like a void of monotony, leaving us restless and unfulfilled (Supporting sentence 2).
In my eyes, there are a few primary causes of boredom. (Topic sentence) As far as I am concerned, boredom is mainly caused by the lack of purpose or meaningful activity (Supporting sentence 1). In our fast-paced lives, excessive reliance on instant gratification, such as scrolling through social media, can exacerbate this boredom (Supporting sentence 2). Additionally, practicing gratitude and mindfulness helps individuals find joy in simple moments, transforming boredom into moments of happiness and satisfaction (Supporting sentence 4).
All in all, we must accept that boredom is a part of our life. To me, boredom is always an opportunity for self-improvement, making life more enriching and fulfilling.

Talking about environmental issues is never ending as there are critical issues that we should be very concerned about. However, some irresponsible people keep threatening the dying Mother Nature. Why are they not worried about damaging the environment?
As far as I am concerned, the most pressing environmental issue that worries me most is plastic pollution (Topic sentence). The excessive use of single-use plastics has led to contaminated oceans and clogged ecosystems (Supporting sentence 1). Moreover, plastic pollution also endangers wildlife like turtles in the sea (Supporting sentence 2). In short, I am worried as it has been causing irreversible damage to our planet (Supporting sentence 3).
From my perspective, teenagers can adopt eco-friendly lifestyles to combat this crisis (Topic sentence). First and foremost, practising habits such as carrying reusable water bottles, avoiding plastic straws, and recycling can drastically reduce waste (Supporting sentence 1). Additionally, supporting sustainable products and reducing energy consumption by turning off lights and unplugging devices are small yet impactful actions that teenagers can easily do (Supporting sentence 2).
Absolutely, raising awareness is pivotal in protecting the environment (Topic sentence). Campaigns, social media initiatives, and school programmes can raise awareness about the consequences of environmental neglect. (Supporting sentence 1). By disseminating knowledge and raising awareness, we can inspire collective efforts to practise eco-friendly lifestyle. Besides, we can also amplify our efforts to protect Mother Nature (Supporting sentence 2). In addition, we can also create a ripple effect of positive changes especially among youth (Supporting sentence 3).
In conclusion, protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. Teenagers and everyone else play a vital role in preserving our planet for generations to come.
